Ellinjaa Waterfall, Atherton Tablelands | Queensland

by Fiona Harper

Ellinjaa Falls are one of the many magnificent waterfalls located on the Atherton Tablelands west of Cairns in Tropical North Queensland. Ellinjaa Waterfall is on the Waterfall Circuit (Millaa Milla Falls & Zillie Falls are the other two) Drive near the town of Millaa Milla on the Kennedy Highway. From the carparsk it’s an easy walk down through rainforest to the waterfall. Keep an eye out for the free-ranging chooks that hang around the carpark!

There is a reasonably large swimming hole at the base of the falls, surrounded by rainforest. It is quite rocky underfoot in the swimming hole and the rocks can be quite slippery.

As this waterfall is on the well-signposted Waterfall Circuit, it can get quite a lot of visitors. To avoid any crowds and have the swimming hole to yourself it’s best to go here in the morning.
