Moorea Pearl Resort & Spa

Moorea Pearl Resort & Spa lobby

Located on the northeast coast of the island of Moorea, midway between fabulous Cook’s Bay and Vairare Pier (ferry  from Papeete), Moorea Pearl Resort & Spa is a four star international standard hotel in traditional Polynesian style. An open sided lobby welcomes guests with cane seating scattered over a tiled floor, beneath a pitched thatched roof lined with hand woven matting. Reception, tour desk, public computers with internet,  boutique and two conference rooms are located in the lobby precinct. The lobby has wifi (not complimentary), all rooms have access to cable internet.

The resort has its own private white sand beach with good reef snorkeling around the overwater bungalows – one of the few resorts to have bungalows positioned directly on the reef. A concerted effort is made to protect the reef and encourage coral and clam growth.

Rooms: 22 garden rooms, 8 family rooms, 28 premium garden pool bungalows, 8 beach bungalows, 28 overwater bungalows
My room: (#222) premium garden pool bungalow, a freestanding thatched roof bungalow with private courtyard and plunge pool, single sofa/daybed, bathroom with step through shower.

BEDROOM
Splendid: King bed super comfy with sheet & cotton throw / evening turn down service with fresh tiare (aromatic flower) left on pillow / good ventilation with sliding door to courtyard / spacious room with comfy daybed couch
Adequate: light switches obviously positioned / flat screen tv & dvd player / minibar pricing & choice
Could do Better: No tea or milk, only coffee and coffee-mate sachets

Moorea Pearl Resort & Spa, Tahiti

Moorea Pearl Resort & Spa, Tahiti: Tiare flower

BATHROOM
Splendid: step through shower, semi separate toilet / timber louver windows for natural ventilation / amenities – generous
Adequate: Hairdryer (pressure release switch troublesome)
Could do Better: Makeup mirror poorly located & badly lit

FACILITIES
Two restaurants & one poolside bar: Restaurant Mahanai open for breakfast, lunch & dinner, also the venue for weekly buffet & Polynesian show.

Fine dining Le Matie Hani Restaurant, air conditioned for dinner, offers fine cuisine marrying international and local specialties with prestigious French and other international wines.

Bar Autera’a open mid morning to late evening for drinks and snacks.

Room Service: available early morning to late evening. House specialty is breakfast served by canoe to overwater bungalow guests

Maneva Spa: Specialising in massage, either at the spa, private in-room, or in picturesque resort locations beachside or over water. Traditional Polynesian tattooing is available at the spa.

Activities: complimentary snorkelling & kayaking. Additional cost: jetski, diving & fishing tours, bicycle & car hire. Tour desk can book all outside tours and transfers.

Swimming Pool: Beachfront infinity pool with jacuzzi, shaded by lush coastal almond tree.

IF YOU GO
Nearby: Five mins walk is  Maharepa Shopping Centre with small supermarket, post office, banks (ATM), shops and restaurants

Electric current: 220v (two round pin French-type plug)

Getting there: ten mins by road from Moorea Airport, 15 mins from Vairare Pier ferry terminal

We love: private plunge pool in Garden Bungalow / step through shower in bathroom / fresh hibiscus & tiare floral arrangements in room

We loathe: Makeup mirror location combined with poor lighting / non-complimentary in-room internet (akin to charging guests for hot water!)

Couples will love: Garden bungalow with own private plunge pool.
Families will love: Duplex rooms with upstairs and downstairs

Rates: Starting from 29,000XPF per room per night (approx 290AUD)
