Surfing the Great Barrier Reef

by Fiona Harper

As Tropical Cyclone Nathan teased north Queenslanders for a week or more, surfers were pretty pleased that he came to play. Stirring up significant inshore surfable waves north of Ellis Beach (between Cairns and Port Douglas), surfers dusted off the spiders from their boards and went out to play. It’s not often that the Great Barrier Reef coast serves up this kind of fun.

Judging by the whooping and hollering I could hear from the beach, they were pretty delighted with the conditions!
