Journey to Ithaca

by Fiona Harper

Fiona_Harper_Image_29222Thanks to Tom Neal Tacker from Naked Hungry Traveller for reminding me of the oft-forgotten spiritual side of journeying. Along with the pure joy that travel incites. All types of journeys whether physical, geographical, emotional, indeed any journey or voyage near or far, enrich the soul.

As a travel writer on assignment constrained by time, editorial and host pressures sometimes I lose sight of the spiritual and emotional connection that travel offers.

The beautiful words of this poem Ithaca takes me on a visual journey with words like these:

Do not hurry the journey at all
Better it lasts for years
So that you are old by the time you reach the island
Wealthy with all that you have gained on the way
Not expecting Ithaca to make you rich
Ithaca gave you the marvelous journey
Without her you would not have set out

Allow Sean Connery to take you on this journey to Ithaca, and please share if this moves you as much as it does me.
